Specialists

It would be appropriate to consult an internist, endocrinologist, a surgeon specializing in thyroid surgery, or an interventional radiologist when assessing a patient with a suspicious thyroid nodule and an abnormal screening evaluation. These specialists can either assist with the interpretation of the screening results or formulate a management plan for the patient.

Find a Thyroid Specialist

American Thyroid Association (ATA)
Founded in 1923, the American Thyroid Association is a professional society of 900 U.S. and international physicians and scientists who specialize in the research and treatment of thyroid diseases. The Association is dedicated to promoting scientific and public understanding of the biology of the thyroid gland and its disorders, so as to improve methods for prevention, diagnosis, and management. The Association fosters excellence in research, patient care, and education of patients, the public, and the medical and scientific communities. The Association also guides public policy about the prevention and management of thyroid diseases.

Find an Endocrinologist

American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE)
Members of AACE are physicians with special education, training and interest in the practice of clinical endocrinology. These physicians devote a significant part of their career to the evaluation and management of patients with endocrine disease. All members of AACE are physicians (M.D. or D.O.) and the majority are certified by Boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Members of AACE are recognized clinicians, educators and scientists, many of whom are affiliated with medical schools and universities. Members of AACE contribute on a regular and continuing basis to the scientific literature on endocrine diseases and conduct medical education programs on this subject.
